Farm Mission Statement:

BrushWalker Alpacas

Our goals are simple at BrushWalker Alpaca - have fun, make new friends and grow our Alpaca business. We will strive to produce generation after generation of animals superior to the last through careful selection of our herdsires.  Our vision is to provide Midwest alpaca breeders the highest quality AmericasPremier™ Herdsires; those who have been progeny tested or from progeny tested sires, and females with the phenotypic traits to produce outstanding crias.

Farm Description:

BrushWalker Alpacas is all about family and the importance of doing something we can all enjoy and be involved in! After wondering around the world over twenty-something years, courtesy of the United States Navy, we wanted to find a place where we could plant some roots, work the American dream of having a family business and enjoy this next phase of our life.

Like most people considering a business venture, we invested quite a few hours researching what the Alpaca business was about, how to take care of the animals, and the pros and cons of where the industry was headed in the United States. Alpacas are an investment: The stock market is an investment. Enron and WorldCom were investments. Try insuring your stock portfolio. You can insure your alpacas for a very modest cost. The alpaca business provides great tax benefits!  Perhaps the greatest draw to the industry was the “people”.  Through our travels we have always enjoyed meeting new people and raising alpacas is a natural people magnet!

When we made the decision raise alpacas, we made a commitment to improve the industry in North America by investing our time and energy growing our AmericasPremierTM  Herdsire presence in the Midwest.  We believe the future of this industry is through producing generation after generation of animals superior to the last through careful selection of our herdsires.  We take into account all the characteristics of their fleece, the presence they exhibit and their pedigrees … we look at conformation traits such as bite, bone density, size and movement to ensure only the best genetics are passed to the next generation of alpacas.  To that end, we have selected only the highest quality males, those who have been progeny tested in the field or are from progeny tested sires to be one of our AmericasPremierTM Herdsires.

All that said, let me tell you that alpaca ownership is one of the most exciting and enjoyable things we've ever done. Seeing crias run and frolic, seeing your herd grow, and watching the quality of your herd improve due to smart breeding is a very rewarding experience.  And, we have meet some wonderful new “friends” through this process.  Our neighbors have dubbed us the “Alpaca Place” and stop by to talk and watch the animals … it just doesn’t get any better!
