Farm Mission Statement:

Hummingherd Alpacas

Farm Description:

We have brought a little bit of Macchu Picchu to southwest Idaho. Ever since we first laid eyes on these magical creatures from the Andes we've been helplessly under their spell. Alpacas are as much a part of the spiritual heritage of the Incas and their descendants as they are a part of the region's ecosystem and economy. The spirit of these animals magnetically attracts people everywhere--adults and children alike--to their curious but unassuming faces, the soft fullness of their fiber, the lightness of their step, the vulnerability in their humming. As tenders of alpacas in the northern Americas, we are keenly aware of the beauty of the treasure that has been entrusted to us. Beneath the ranching enterprise, the thrill of owning and developing a herd, and the hope of building a successful business lies a conviction that these animals do not really belong to us; rather, they are messengers that point us back to a part of ourselves we have lost touch with as twenty-first century devotees of the gods of technology and consumerism-- a place that longs for the simplicity of living in peace, walking in beauty, in harmony with all of life.

Farm Directions:

From Boise take Hwy 44 (State Street) to Hwy 16 to Emmett. At Emmett’s new stop light and turn signal (!) turn right (Washington and also Hwy 52 North).

Go through two stop lights (the 2nd is Main Street), cross the railroad tracks, cross the Payette River bridge. Just over the bridge turn left on Sunset.

Sunset follows the bench and then climbs it slowing down to 25mph at the top of the hill. Continue through that residential area. Speed limit resumes to 35mph and road breaks out into farmland. Turn left immediately after the 2-story Victorian amidst huge trees onto Jackson Avenue.

Go past the field on the right, then a house with lots of dogs, then a bank of mailboxes. Immediately after the mailboxes turn right onto a private road called Thawed Dog Road (blue sign). As road bears to the right you keep straight. This is our driveway. On left you will see 899. Come on back and park where you can.

From Horseshoe Bend take Hwy 52 towards Emmett. At Emmett turn left on Washington Blvd. Turn right at blinking light on Idaho Blvd. Go straight until you reach Jackson Avenue (a couple of miles) where you turn left. Continue straight through stop sign at Sunset.
