HAND OR PEN MATING Print this page
Email to a friend
Pen breeding is the most time consuming. If you only have a few females to breed it is no big deal but if you have hundreds it can take a lot of time. When hand or pen mating the male is introduced to the female in a small pen (10’x 10’). The advantages to this approach are: 1. It is easy to observe health, receptivity and success. 2. The dates of mating and conception are easy to document. 3. You can easily determine that the male has penetrated the female.
